PEOPLE

Smith Monroe Gray employs a staff of about 35 people. That staff includes licensed structural engineers, licensed civil engineers, and  licensed mechanical engineers (some employees are licensed in more than one discipline.) SMG's additional staff is made up of EITs, designers, drafters and administrative personnel. Smith Monroe Gray has been able to maintain long-term employees, some of whom have been with Smith Monroe Gray since the 1970s.

Engineers at Smith Monroe Gray are currently licensed in more than half of the U.S. states and several Canadian provinces.

Rod Monroe, PE, SE
​President

Rod is licensed in civil and structural engineering. For over forty years, Rod has been designing structures for the commercial, industrial, mining and bridge construction industries. His experience includes material handling equipment and process design, procurement of permits, project management and feasibility cost estimates.

Travis Grutsch, PE, SE
Senior Vice President

Travis is a licensed civil and structural engineer with a master’s degree in civil engineering, and manages SMG’s Missoula, Montana branch office. Since joining Smith Monroe Gray Engineers in 2002, he has been responsible for structural design of temporary and support structures for the construction industry. Travis’ projects encompass a variety of construction engineering services, including the design of falsework, cofferdams, shoring, trestles, and other specialized structures.

Bj Morgan, PE, SE
​Vice President

Bj is a licensed civil and structural engineer with more than fifteen years of experience dedicated to construction engineering and the design of temporary structures. His experience covers a wide range of support structures used to facilitate bridge and building construction. Bj takes pride in creative thinking required to develop practical, economical solutions.

Kenny Dupuis, PE, SE
​Vice President

Kenny has been with SMG since 2008 and is a licensed civil and structural engineer with a B.S. and M.S. from Washington State University.  Kenny has focused his structural design and project management efforts on heavy bridge construction, material handling systems, and mining and industrial facilities.  His main goal is to provide clients with safe and efficient structural design for the wide variety of projects he’s associated with.

Jill Folkestad, PE, SE
​Vice President

Jill is a licensed civil and structural engineer with a master’s degree in civil engineering.  At SMG, Jill has been devoted to the management and design of multi-phase structural engineering projects with an emphasis on construction engineering services.  Her experience includes seismic design of a wide variety of structures and mechanical and electrical components, bridge falsework design, shoring, trestles, and other specialized structures.

Josh Christiansen, PE, SE
Vice President

Josh is a licensed civil and structural engineer with a master’s degree in civil engineering with a focus on structures. Josh joined the SMG team in 2011, and has excelled in managing a variety of engineering projects. His work includes material handling facilities, building design, complex finite element analysis and temporary construction structures.

Nick Merriss
​Vice President

Nick's construction background encompasses a broad range of projects, from residential, commercial, heavy civil, and underground utilities to large-scale bridge, structure and earth-moving projects. Nick's focus includes project management, construction cost estimating, permitting, and contract administration.
